Posada Amazonas Lodge: A Sustainable Jungle Retreat

My visit to the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest was an incredible life experience. As I mentioned in my previous post, the Amazon Rainforest is so much more than just a destination; it is a critical reminder of the urgent need for conservation efforts. This is why I was so impressed by the resort where we stayed, Posada Amazonas Lodge. Nestled within a private communal reserve of over 9,500 hectares, this lodge is owned by the Ese Eja Community of Infierno in partnership with Rainforest Expeditions. It offers an exciting blend of wildlife, culture, and conservation, while combining comfort, delicious food, and a true sense of adventure at the gateway to the Amazon rainforest.

Commitment to Sustainability

Posada Amazonas Lodge is dedicated to preserving the environment and empowering the local community. By protecting large areas of untouched rainforest and creating sustainable jobs for the Ese Eja people, this venture significantly boosts annual incomes for the community and provides full-time employment.

Layout and Experience

The lodge seamlessly combines comfort with an eco-friendly design. Elevated to minimize its impact on nature, the structure is built using traditional materials and modern eco-lodge technology, designed to blend harmoniously with its natural surroundings. The crisneja palm frond roof and tropical mahogany floors enhance its natural charm, creating a peaceful atmosphere. Posada Amazonas features 30 rooms to suit different preferences, a dining area with a bar, a lobby area with sofas, a relaxation zone with hammocks, a play area for kids, and support facilities for various activities.

The Rooms

Rooms at Posada Amazonas Lodge feature three walls open to the rainforest, with mosquito nets over the beds. This was a first for me, and on the first night, I was a bit scared to sleep! However, I can honestly say that sleeping in an open-air room, without electronic devices and surrounded by the sounds of nature, gave me the best sleep of my life. Each room includes a private bathroom with hot water, bedside tables, and hammocks. Decorated with bas-relief wood carvings that tell Ese Eja stories, the rooms are designed to blend seamlessly with the rainforest. Food should be stored in a special safe (or avoid having anything eatable) to prevent encounters with animals or insects.

Activities and Adventures

Posada Amazonas Lodge offers a variety of exciting activities for all types of travellers. You can see photos and more information in my article here.

  • Canopy Tower: Climb a 42-meter tower for breathtaking panoramic views of the jungle canopy, ideal for spotting colourful birds and other wildlife.

  • Tres Chimbadas Oxbow Lake: Enjoy a serene boat ride to spot giant river otters, caimans, and a variety of bird species.

  • Parrot and Macaw Clay Lick: Witness the vibrant spectacle of parrots and macaws gathering at a clay lick, a crucial part of their diet.

  • Night Walk: Discover the Amazon's nocturnal creatures, including amphibians, reptiles, insects, and birds.

  • Jungle Mountain Biking: Explore the rainforest on a 7-kilometer trail with all necessary gear provided.

  • Sunset Boat Trip: Experience the stunning Amazon sunset from a boat on the Tambopata River.

Relaxation

After a day of adventure, guests can unwind with massages with Amazonian plant-based lotions or relax in a hammock, surrounded by the soothing sounds of the jungle.

Why I loved Posada Amazonas

Posada Amazonas offers an immersive experience that supports conservation and empowers local communities. Every stay there contributes to preserving the Amazon Rainforest and its rich cultural traditions.

A visit to Posada Amazonas is a journey into the heart of the Amazon rainforest and a meaningful encounter with sustainability and cultural heritage. This eco-friendly lodge enriches your travel experience, while helping to preserve one of our planet’s most biodiverse ecosystems.
