A day at Cyherbia Botanical Park in Avgorou

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Cyherbia Botanical Park in Avgorou, and it was a day filled with natural beauty, relaxation, and exciting experiences. From the moment I arrived, I was enchanted by the park's charm and the wonderful activities it offered.

Woodland

A unique feature of Cyherbia Botanical Park is the Woodland trail, designed in the shape of Cyprus. This path goes through lush greenery, allowing visitors to enjoy a leisurely walk that mirrors the island's outline. Along the trail, you'll see a variety of native plants and trees, offering a peaceful and immersive way to explore the park's natural beauty and appreciate Cyprus’s flora.

Blossomed Lavender Gardens

The main reason for my visit was the lavender gardens, which bloom until the end of June or early July each year. There are two stunning lavender gardens perfect for photoshoots: the lavender rows garden inside the forest and the lavender meditation garden within the herb gardens. Visitors can embark on a transformative meditation and mindfulness walk. The lavender meditation garden features a butterfly sculpture symbolizing the beauty of change and transformation.

Once the lavender season ends, it is harvested for its intensely sweet and fragrant essential oil. The park also produces a variety of lavender products, including teas, linen and room spray, lavender closet sachets, lavender cakes, and fresh lavender lemonade squash. After the serene walk, I enjoyed a complimentary cup of iced herbal tea at the fully air-conditioned Botanicus Bistro.

Boho Picnic

A standout offering at Cyherbia Botanical Park is the Boho Picnic experience in the park's Woodland. This private, Boho Chic-themed picnic combines natural beauty with stylish comfort. Guests can enjoy a variety of platters suited to different dietary needs, all set in a secluded and cozy spot. It's perfect for creating special memories with loved ones, whether for a romantic proposal, a birthday, or any special gathering.

The Maze/Labyrinth

The maze was a delightful challenge! It was fascinating to learn that children often find their way out the quickest. Visitors are given a scavenger hunt quest to find the seven protected birds of Cyprus within the maze. This is the only hedge maze in Cyprus, with over 600 meters of twisting paths between tall hedges, covering 2000 square meters of green space. Reaching the watchtower offered a great viewpoint of the maze from above, perfect for taking pictures and finding the way out.

Distillation Process

One of the highlights of my visit was learning about the distillation process used to extract essential oils from the park's aromatic plants. The detailed demonstration explained each step involved in the oil extraction techniques and highlighted the various benefits of the essential oils produced. It was fascinating to gain a deeper understanding of how these oils are made and their numerous applications for health and wellness.

Brunch at the Botanicus Bistro

After exploring the gardens and labyrinth, I headed to the park's restaurant for a delightful brunch. The menu featured unique dishes and herbal drinks that beautifully combined nature and gastronomy, creating a dining experience that reflects the scents and flavours of Cyherbia Botanical Park. The teas offered are not only delicious but also packed with health benefits, from boosting immunity to soothing a cough. Another must-try is the homemade lavender lemonade, a refreshing and naturally sweet treat that captures the essence of the lavender. This unique beverage is also available as a squash in the Natural Products Shop, perfect for taking a piece of Cyherbia home with you!

Natural Products Shop

Before leaving, I stopped by the park's store, which offered a wide range of natural products made from the plants grown at Cyherbia. From essential oils and herbal teas to skincare products and handmade crafts, the store had something for everyone.

My visit to Cyherbia Botanical Park was both refreshing and enlightening. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, a fan of herbal remedies, or just seeking a peaceful retreat, this park has something for everyone. With its beautifully maintained gardens, engaging activities, and educational opportunities, it’s a must-visit destination in Cyprus.
